Writing Blog Posts for a Pet Business: How Do You Do It?

So you want to write a blog for your pet business? We’ve got you covered.

If you run a pet business, and you’ve been reading our blogs, we hope by now that you know that you need a strong online presence. One of the best ways to target relevant keywords is to start a blog. This helps you create high-quality content for your pet parents on a regular basis that helps you rank higher in search engine results. You may ask yourself “where do I even start?!”, have no fear, we are here to help you.

Define Your Target Market

First, you need to find your target market.

Who do you want to actually read your blog? Your pet parents! Think of anyone who could benefit the most from the content you produce. When thinking of your customer persona, think carefully about what they would actually like to learn about. Then, you can start producing blogs that will help pet parents solve any issues or answer any questions they may have.

Provide Answers to Frequent Questions

Start by thinking about the most frequently asked questions you’ve been receiving from your customers. Such as, “how do I get mats out of my doodle’s hair?” or “What is the best tick repellent?”.  You could even do a quick Google search and find the section “people also ask”. These are questions that are closely related to the search you just entered.

We suggest putting a notepad at the store where your employees can jot down any questions that they continuously hear throughout the day. Or even put a section on your website where pet parents can submit questions. These are great ways to collect new ideas for blog posts.

Use Customer Stories and Case Studies

Take advantage of your customer stories! Frame them as case studies. Do you have any pet parents who have been particularly satisfied with one of your products or services you’ve offered? If so, use these customer stories to create a case study to showcase your products and services. Even better, ask if your pet parent would be willing to participate in an interview with you so they can share their story with other potential customers!

Reveal a Day in the Life Of…

Here’s another idea: tell the story about what it’s like to live a day in the life of a dog, cat, pet parent, or any other animal! Enter the world of first-person and recount a story or what you think a day in the life of your furry friend would be. This helps hook the attention of visitors and gives them a unique perspective of the culture of your store.

Give out Awards

You can even give our awards within your blog posts on your website to pet parents or their four-legged friends. For example, you may want to write a blog post titled “Cutest dog of the week” or the “biggest dog of the week” and showcase the animals that have visited your store in the last week. You can hand out awards for other pets, the best pet products, pet food, and more! Get creative with it!

Curate Existing Blog Posts

Think about existing blogs, can you repurpose them as your own? Of course, we are not supporting plagiarism over here, but you can use the ideas from other posts as a way to create ideas of your own. Try to target blog posts from websites that are raking ahead of yours. If you try to emulate their content, you might improve your own rankings!

Target Your Local Area

Produce local content. After a while, you start to see the ‘regulars’ that frequent your store, and most pet parents have met each other one way or another whether it be at the dog park or walking around the neighborhood. You could even give a shout-out to the local dog park or if there are other animal-related events taking place in your area. If you define yourself as a local pet resource, you will generate more traffic from people looking for answers in your local area.
